Myrtis Easter Groves, 88, of Elyria went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August, 20, 2012 in the Elyria Memorial Hospital Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, coming to Elyria in 1989.
Mrs. Groves was employed with the Board of Education with South Leak Elementary School in Walnut Grove, Mississippi. She also worked for Tyson Chicken Company in Carthage, Mississippi. She was a member of the Christian Union Baptist Church in Carthage, Mississippi where she served as a Church Committee Worker. She was also a member of the N.A.A.C.P. in Mississippi. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, traveling and shopping.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Allie M. Kilgore of Elyria, Rachael J. (Will) Peterson of Detroit, Michigan, Barnette Groves of Elyria, Rosie N. Mays of Detroit, Michigan, Patricia (Tommy) Valentine of Pheba, Mississippi, and Shirley A. Groves of Mansfield; sons, Moses (Dorothy) Groves of Cleveland, and Robert L. Groves of Elyria; host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; one brother, Howard Siggers of Kosciusko, Mississippi; and one sister, Eva Dell Robinson of Cleveland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Groves; parents, William and Rachel Siggers; son, Sammie H. Groves; daughter, Bessie Groves; sister, Julia M. Nash; and six brothers.
Friends may call Saturday, August, 25, 2012 from 11 A.M. until time of service at 12 Noon in the Bethel Church of God in Christ, 537 Irondale, Elyria, where Elder Willis Williams will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria.
